MERKMALE: very convenient location, parquet and ceramic flooring, wooden roofs and beams, ample windows with views over the monuments of Florence, habitable terrace, stone staircase, ample and bright rooms
In the historic center of Florence, between Piazza Santa Croce and Piazza San Firenze, on the fourth floor of a 13th-century palazzo, penthouse with panoramic views for sale. The street has been, and still is, one of the best known in the historic center and is home to imposing manorial palazzi that belonged to powerful Florentine families such as the Peruzzi, Da Cintoia and Barucci families.
In Roman times, the street exited the walls and led to the city's amphitheater. Over the centuries, the ruins of the Roman building became palaces and dwellings while the neighborhood was included in the new walls interrupted by the Isola d'Arno gate. Over the centuries the street has had different names for its various sections: towards Santa Croce it was called Via del Parlagio (or Via delle Tinte), and in the 18th century the same section took the name Via dei Cocchi (an important Florentine family). The remaining stretch took the name Via dell’Anguillara as early as the 13th century, and the name is traced back to the Florentine term Anguillara, which generically indicated a tied bunch of vines: Piero Bargellini and Ennio Guarnieri speculate that this name goes back to the initial origin of the street as a simple lane among the rows of vines around the city of Florence.
The apartment (170 sqm – 1,829 sqft) unfolds on the two highest floors of the building, reached by a condominium staircase: the private stone staircase from the main door on the fourth floor leads to an entrance hall with a gallery that then opens onto the bright open-plan living area with a sitting corner and dining area then connected to the eat-in kitchen. A sliding glass door leads to the sleeping area, consisting of two spacious double bedrooms and shared bathroom.
A staircase with glass and steel railing ascends to the upper floor. Here are three large rooms, all communicating with each other, and a small windowed service bathroom. The first room features an elegant gallery overlooking the living area and a large sliding window with a view of the monuments of the historic center of Florence. These rooms, quite distinct from the rooms below, lend themselves very well to various uses: office space, guest quarters or dedicated space for children.
The property is completed by a beautiful livable terrace (12 sqm – 129 sqft) with 180° views of unique monuments such as the Palazzo del Bargello, the Badia Fiorentina and in the background the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore.
The penthouse, thanks to its central position in the heart of Florence right beyond the corner between Via dell’Anguillara and Piazza San Firenze, allows reaching many of the most interesting landmarks in the city on foot. Ranked by distance are the church of Santa Croce with the tombs of many Italian artists (200 m; 3’), the Uffizi Gallery (300 m; 3’), the beautiful and unique Ponte Vecchio (500 m; 7’), Piazza del Duomo (600 m; 8’), Palazzo Medici (800 m; 10’) and the adjacent Basilica di San Lorenzo decorated by Michelangelo and Brunelleschi (850 m; 11’), the impressive Palazzo Pitti (1,0 km; 10’), the church of Santa Maria Novella (1.0 km; 12’) next to the central station of the city, the church of Santo Spirito in Oltrarno (1.1 km; 13’), the unique and wonderful panoramic terrace of Piazzale Michelangelo (1.5 km; 21’), and finally the imposing Medicean Fortezza da Basso (1.6 km; 20’).
